Filopappos Hills-2

In 1687, during an attempt to seize the Ottoman occupied Akrópolis, the Venetians garrisoned themselves on Filopappos Hills, the perfect strategic location to shell their target. Unfortunately, a shell hit the Parthenon where the Turks stored their gunpowder, and the ensuing explosion severely damaged the Akrópolis's temple and sculptures.
