Kerameikós Cemetery-1

The outer walls of ancient Athens run through Kerameikós, once the edge of the Classical city. Warriors and priestesses returned to Athens through Kerameikós via two separate roads, one leading to a brothel, another one to a temple. Statesmen and heroes were buried beneath showy tombs lining the roads. It was also the haunt of prostitutes, money-lenders, and wine-sellers.
